Day 22 of Advent

The Little Drummer Boy

This song is especially cherished by our mom. She loves the reminder that Christmas is not about material rewards or achievements, but about giving what you can, sharing yourself, and knowing you can come as you are.

Scripture Reading for the Day

Matthew 2:1-2

1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.”

Activity for Today

A Gift You Bring & DIY Drums

What gifts or talents do you have that you could be sharing with others? It may not seem special or important to you, but every gift could bless someone. Today, you could even go to a nursing home and give out cards, hugs, or sing songs while keeping beat with a homemade drum.

Make your Own Drums!

There are literal beets in this blend...for color not tempo! A perfect blend of strawberries & green tea.

Let's spill the tea about Sassyfras Strawberry...

Eloquent Description

Inspired by sassafras & sarsaparilla, we created our favorite, time-honored, spunky, root-imbued brew: Sassyfras Strawberry. We added an immaculate sencha tea, and filled it with delicious dried beets and strawberries to make a tantalizingly sweet and balanced homage to this symbol of independence, ingenuity, and family.

Ingredients

  • Sencha Green Tea
  • Strawberries
  • Sarsaparilla Root
  • Natural Flavor
  • Red Beets (for color)

Steeping Suggestions

For hot tea, steep one tea bag in 8 to 10oz of 180 water for 3 minutes. For iced, use half the water(same temp), steep for the same time, and add ice after you pull the tea bag out.

Someone Else's Thoughts

“So delicious. Amazing iced. Fresh, but earthy flavor. Very unique.”
– Lisa

  • Fun Fact!

Creating this Advent Calendar was quite the adventure! We spent a lot of time debating which teas should pair with each story, book, or song—and on which day! We thought we had it all figured out when suddenly, as we were going through a semi-final day-tea run down, Caleb enthusiastically said, "Hey, why not put Sassyfras Strawberry with 'The Little Drummer Boy?'" We all blinked at him, a little puzzled by the sudden change and enthusiasm. Then, with a grin, he added, 'Because Sassyfras Strawberry has BEETS in it!' That got a good chuckle, and we knew right then and there—it had to be done! Leave it to Caleb to bring his off-the-wall humor to the table!

    Pa rum pum pum pum

    To lay before the king
    Pa rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum

    So to honor him
    Pa rum pum pum pum
    When we come

    Little baby
    Pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too
    Pa rum pum pum pum

I have no gift to bring
    Pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our king
    Pa rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum

    Shall I play for you
    Pa rum pum pum pum
    Pa rum pum pum
    Pum pum pum pum

    Mary nodded
    Pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time
    Pa rum pum pum pum

I played my drum for him
    Pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for him
    Pa rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum,
    Rum pum pum pum

    Then he smiled at me
    Pa rum pum pum pum
    Me and my drum
