Westward Ho! The Long Haul East: Back to the South! (Day 42)

Westward Ho! The Long Haul East: Back to the South! (Day 42)

Today was the day for a truly epic drive. We packed up on the Ingalls Homestead early and drove for 12.5 hours, pulling over for a quick sleep just outside St. Louis, Missouri.

The biggest shock? When we stopped for dinner, we opened the van door and were smacked in the face by hot, wet, southern humidity! After weeks of crisp mountain air, we had forgotten what it felt like. We are definitely heading back to our side of the country.
This was also the first night of the trip that no one slept well (except Caleb, of course!). We learned a valuable lesson: always make sure your overnight spot is far, far away from the interstate. The rushing semi-trucks were a rough lullaby!

The kids were also very disappointed that we drove along the border of Nebraska but never crossed into it, so they couldn't mark it off on their maps.
A long day of travel, but it feels good to be getting closer to home.Just One. More. Day.
