Westward Ho! Living the "Little House" Life in De Smet! (Day 41)

Westward Ho! Living the "Little House" Life in De Smet! (Day 41)

A rainy prairie morning sent us into the town of De Smet to explore the real-life places from the "Little House" books. We toured several of the actual houses where the Ingalls family lived—so incredible to stand in the same rooms we've been reading about!

When the rain cleared, we headed back to the Ingalls Homestead for an afternoon of pure magic. The family that runs this place goes above and beyond to create a true pioneer experience. Our admission included a covered wagon ride, pony rides, pony cart rides, and hands-on crafts!

The kids were in heaven. They explored an authentic dugout house, played in an 1800s shanty, and loved the barn animals. They even made friends with other kids camping on the homestead, including another family from Alabama!

Watching them run free on the prairie until dark, living out the stories we’ve been sharing on this trip, was a memory I will treasure forever. A truly special place.
