Day 4: Route 66 Charm, Blustery Winds, and a Blue Oasis!
Share
Kicked off our day on Historic Route 66! The kids had a blast "behind bars" at an old one-room jail. Then, the iconic Conoco Tower Station (a "Cars" movie inspiration!) was a dream.

Even though they weren't open, the wonderful Carrie and Hazel threw open the doors, gave us a tour, shared Route 66 tips, and sent us off with such warmth. Such a blessing to meet kind souls – we left them a little Piper & Leaf sunshine too!
Spotted so many classic roadside wonders: Slug Bug Ranch, Cadillac Ranch, the Leaning Tower of Texas, and the Giant Cross. The kids loved the Big Texan Steak Ranch – saddles and toy guns made their day! The winds, however? Still abnormally strong! Hats off to Caleb for navigating "Buzz" through those prairie gusts. Definitely praying for calmer skies ahead!
But then... the Blue Hole of Santa Rosa! An 81ft deep, crystal-clear turquoise swimming hole (a brisk 61°!). Everyone LOVED cliff jumping and swimming in that pristine water. It was the perfect refreshing stop, and the winds even calmed while we were there! Felt like a little piece of heaven.
Tonight, we’re camped at Rodeo de Santa Fe, and the kids are overjoyed – horses right behind our camper! Such a sweet end to a whirlwind day.
