Day 15: Golden Spikes, "Going to Town" & Surprise Family!
Share
Woke up at the kindest host's farm, north of Salt Lake (near Horseshoe Peak!). Then, a day trip WITHOUT "Buzz" – a novelty! Headed to Golden Spike National Historic Park in Promontory, UT. We were SO excited for this, as we studied the Transcontinental Railroad this past school year. Reading "The Ten Mile Day" aloud while driving up the mountain, pointing out places from the book in real-time, was surreal!

Don't skip this park! On Saturdays (like our visit!), they reenact the driving of the Golden Spike & the famous "Champagne Photo" connecting the rails. Guests even pose with period pieces! The rangers do an incredible job making history thrilling.

After, we "went to town" for supplies in Salt Lake City – a phrase now filled with extra charm thanks to listening to the "Little House" books on this trip! Stocked up for our next stop: the Grand Tetons! Of course, Lorna added excitement with a tumble down the camper stairs (thankfully just scared this time! ).
Dinner was a treat at In-N-Out Burger (family fave!). While there, a text from Mom: my aunt & cousin were ALSO in SLC for a wedding tonight! Unbelievable! So many wonderful, unexpected connections on this journey.
