Westward Ho! Day 13: Bryce Goodbyes, Medical Detours & Capitol Reef Boondocking Bliss!
Share
Woke up (late!) after our camper water park party at Bryce. Sadly, no extra night available, so our big hike was off. But as we packed, we met a group ALSO from Huntsville, AL – two just engaged at the Grand Canyon & they knew some of our Piper & Leaf Team! Such a small, wonderful world.Kids still got their Bryce Canyon Junior Ranger badges (yay!) before we hit the road.

Then, the day took a turn: Mark felt sick & Lorna's cactus-stung tongue looked worse. Friends recommended an ER in Panguitch (same one they'd used!). On the way, we thankfully got our Huntsville pediatrician on the phone. Good news: no ER needed! Bad news: just gotta wait for the tongue to heal.
Best news? Prescription: ICE CREAM DIET for Lorna! She perked right up!
ER averted, we headed to Capitol Reef National Park. The drive? Jaw-dropping. Again. This country's diverse beauty is just endless, mile after mile. We had no campsite reserved, took a chance driving down the steep park entrance (Caleb’s handling "Buzz" like a pro!). Campground was full, but a kind host gave us boondocking tips nearby.

So, back up the mountain we went & found what might be the kids' FAVORITE campsite yet! Free public land near the park entrance, panoramic views, incredible rocks & cliffs for scrambling. Only a few other campers. Pure magic. Feeling so blessed by these unexpected turns that lead to such beauty.
